Through SWOAD, with the aim of creating awareness among rural communities and enabling them to access various government services, awareness seminars were conducted across 54 village branches operating in the divisional secretariat areas of Pothuvil, Thirukkovil, Kalmunai, Karaitivu, Sammanthurai, and Navithanveli.
During the months of January and February, 33 selected villages hosted 33 awareness seminars, involving relevant government officials such as DO, SSO, WDO, CRPO, CA, AI, ADO, GS, MDO, and Bank Managers.
A total of 1,483 members participated and gained awareness on the following 19 key topics:
- Services provided by the government for women
- Services provided by the Social Services Department
- Child rights and child protection
- National reconciliation
- Home gardening management
- Services of the Department of Agrarian Services
- Aswesuma welfare program
- Procedures and benefits of going abroad for employment
- Government welfare schemes for the public
- Understanding rural development and social assistance
- Investment schemes and benefits provided by banks for economic development
- Protecting society from drug abuse
- Services provided to the public by divisional secretariats
- Awareness on livestock farming methods
- Increasing women’s income through cottage industries
- Healthy eating habits
- Human emotions and expressions of mental well-being
- Importance of school education
- Services available to the public through Grama Niladhari officer.
